The commercial racing industry routinely overbreeds and discards unwanted greyhounds, leaving thousands in need of homes each year. Whether you live near a racetrack or not, there are gentle and loving hounds waiting for adoption in your area. Concerned animal advocates are working to rescue greyhounds from the perils of racing life but your help is needed to save them all.

Greyhounds are intelligent, loyal, and good natured

  • They are easily housetrained, shed only slightly and rarely bark.

  • Adult greyhounds stand between 23 and 30 inches at the shoulder and weigh 50 to 85 pounds.

  • Called “45 mile-per-hour couch potatoes,” rescued greyhounds require little exercise and spend most of their time napping around the house.

  • Ex-racers make excellent family friends, even for apartment dwellers and require the same regular walks that all dogs do.

  • Greyhounds come in many sizes and colors and have different personalities. The most important factor to consider is the suitability of any individual dog to your own lifestyle and family situation.
